Eat to Live, by Dr. Joel Fuhrman is one of the best books to read and own. He explains why you should eat low calorie foods that are nutritionally dense -meaning they are full of vitamins and minerals. (He lists the MOST nutritionally dense foods as being vegetables.)
Dr. Fuhrman, who is vegan (no milk, meat or eggs) recommends that you greatly increase your vegetables and fruits, and decrease your empty carbs (such as bread and pasta) and also reduce your fat intake of meat and dairy.
Surprisingly, most Americans are actually malnourished even thought they eat a lot (overeat). I am always talking to friends who have a typical American disease and then I read that that disease could be alleviated or could have been prevented by an improved diet.
For instance, the more dairy you consume, the more likely you are to get prostate cancer. In Japan where they consume little dairy, men get prostate cancer at older ages than in the US.
(I believe people need to eat fish for Omega-3s and eggs for the many nutrients.)
Another web site I like is mercola.com and he has a free daily newsletter. He promotes a high veg and egg, and grain-free diet. He also provides a daily video lecture.
